NRI unions step up movement seeking conferring of Bharat Ratna to Ex-PM PV Narasimha Rao

Hyderabad: As many as 81 associations across the world including American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin (AAPI), Telugu Association of North America (TANA), American Telugu Association (ATA), NATS, North America Telugu Association (NATA), Silikandhra, Telangana Development Forum (TDF) and St. Louis, Gujarat Samaj have stepped up movement for conferment of Bharat Ratna to former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao. As part of their movement, the representatives of these associations visited New Delhi and submitted memorandum to several Central Ministers and MP’s. Telangana BJP senior leader and grandson of Late P V Narasimha Rao N V Subhash accompanied the NRI delegation in New Delhi. 

In a statement on Friday, N V Subhash said the delegation has launched a campaign to appeal to the Government of India to confer nation’s highest civilian award, Bharat Ratna to former Prime Minister P V Narasimha Rao whose birth centenary celebrations are being organized in 2020. These associations have teamed up under the banner of Maithri International, USA, organized a series of programmes with RRRs ‘Remembering PV’, ‘Remind people’ and ‘Request Indian Govt’. As part of the campaign, they have launched a signature campaign in October last year. The movement culminated in New Delhi on Dec 28th 2020, with the submission of memoranda as part of ‘requesting Govt of India’. The NRI delegation submitted memorandum to Central ministers and Members of Parliament. 

The delegation visited PV Ghat in Hyderabad and paid rich tributes to the legendary leader on December 23. They released a short film and a calendar seeking Bharat Ratna to PV Narasimha Rao. A special edition of PV centenary: NRI association has been released in New Delhi and copies of the book were distributed to the prominent people. A petition has been given to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Hon’ble Home Minister Amit Shah at their offices.

 The delegation accompanied by N V Subhash also met Sri Gajendra Singh Shekawat, Minister Jal Shakti, Prakash Javadekar, Union Minister for Environment, forest and Information and Broadcasting, Dr.Jitendra Singh, Minister of State in Prime Minister office. G Kishan Reddy, Minister of State for Home Ministry, Dr.Subrahmanya Swamy, Member of Parliament, RajyaSabha, Bandi  Sanjay Kumar, Member of Parliament and BJP Telangana President, Aravind Dharmavarapu, Member of Parliament, LokSabha, Vijay Chouthala, in-charge and member of Foreign Affairs Ministry, D.Purandeshwari, GS BJP, Anil Sastry, former MP and grandson of Lal Bahadur Sastry,

The NRI delegation thanked N V Subhash (grandson of PV) for extending his support during its tour in Hyderabad and Delhi. The panel expressed hope that the Central Government would announce soon conferring Bharat Ratna to P V Narasimha Rao. Swarna Prasad, GullapalliSrinivas, Dr Ashok Kumar, Chinta Praveen, Talluri Sridhar, Aswin Patel, KajaVisweswar Rao (St. Louis) Baddi Ashok, KondepuSudha, ChallaKavitha (Washington DC), AtluriSrihari (Los Angeles), Dr.Kalvakota Saraswathi (Ohio) were among the NRI delegation.
