Dr Harsha Vardhan released 5th National Family Health Survey for 17 states & 5 Union Territories in its phase – I

Union Health Minister Dr Harshavardhan chaired an event marking Universal Health Coverage Day released 5th National Family Health Survey for 17 states & 5 Union Territories in its phase – I,

NFHS for remaining 12 states & 2 UT’s will be released in May 2021. Ashwini Kumar Choubey Union Minister of State for Health and family welfare has joined the event virtually from Patna.
National Family Health Survey contains detailed information on population, health and nutrition for India and it’s states & union territories.

Key Take away’s from the survey for Telangana state are

1) Men age 15 years & above who consume alcohol % in urban is 33.9%, Rural is 49% & total is at 43.3%.

2) Men age 15 years above who use any kind of tobacco is at 22.3%

3) Young Women age 18-29 years who experienced sexual violence by age 18 in % is decreased by 2.4% compared to NFHS 4.
NFHS 5 – 5.0 %
NFHS 4 – 7.4%

4) Women having a bank/Savings account that they themselves use % increased to 84.4% in NFHS -5 from 59.5% in NFHS -4.

5) Births in private health facility that were delivered by caesarean section increased to 81.5% in NFHS – 5 from 74.5% in NFHS-4.

Births in public health facility that were delivered by caesarean section in NFHS – 5 is 44.5% whereas it was 40.3% in NFHS – 4.

6) Households using clean fuel for cooking in NFHS – 5 is increased by whopping 24.5% from 67.3% in NFHS-4 to 91.8 % in NFHS -5.

7) Sex ratio of the total population (females per 1000 males) increased to 1049 (NFHS – 5) from 1007 (NFHS- 4)
